Chicka-dee-dee-dee!

4"X4" oil on masonite
This one took wayyyyy longer than I planned!!!
I obsessed too much over the details.......
My shoulders and neck started aching......
I felt a bit frustrated.......
and then I started saying "chicka-dee-dee-dee!" and felt happy :) ha ha

I tried to keep the background a little more brushy. Working on that!
Fun stuff.

Sort of cheating in Labrador!

Little falls on Churchill river lake
I sort of cheated today. This was one I did last year. I did paint one specifically for today, and I do like it.....
but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a good photo if it!
The painting is quite dark, so maybe that has something to do with it.
If I get a good photo of it sometime I will post!
so....if the point of the challenge is to paint, well, I did do that! Just posting a different painting due to technical difficulties!

In the meantime, this is a waterfall I took a photo of when we did an 8 day canoe trip
down the Churchill River in Labrador. We spent one entire day crossing a huge lake in a headwind.
The entire shoreline was either vertical cliff or big rocks like this.....nowhere to camp or pull in.

So it was pedal to the metal! Or paddle to the water or something like that!  :)
We occasionally pulled into little "coves" where the wind wasn't so bad to wait for friends and have a snack or two, still in our canoes. It was at one of these little moments I snapped the photo that became this painting. I tried to keep it loose and brushy which was definitely in the spirit of a painting a day!
I framed the painting and gave to my husband as a memento.

2018 finds me with a full commitment back into my art. At the end of 2017 I had a big decision to make, and I have taken the big leap with full support of my family to focus on art as my career. I wanted to do this for many years but many things held me back (mostly my own inner perceptions?) Interesting stuff when you think about it!

I won't go into the big story, but this quote sums everything up for me:

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

― Anaïs Nin

Working on the blossoming part now :)
